A few weeks ago we went for a trip to the Bronx Zoo. Last year we took Tate there before Knox was born and he really loved it. This time around we were able to show Knox all the animals and he really enjoyed it too.
The Bronx Zoo is HUGE. Certainly compared to the Adelaide Zoo. So, it was great having been to the zoo before and knowing where to go, when to go and areas that we weren’t so interested in. Last year we were there from opening to closing, but this time we managed to get out of there a little earlier and didn’t have quite so exhausted children!
First stop at the zoo was to Jungleworld while we waited for the Wild Asia Monorail to open.
Next up was the Wild Asian Monorail. Tate and Knox unfortunately weren’t as interested in this as we’d hoped. The monorail is a pretty cool way of seeing some of the animals, however because you are so far above the animals, I think it loses a bit of the excitement for little kids because they aren’t seeing them up close.
We then headed over to the African Plains area. Last time Tate loved this area the most as it had the Giraffes. This time he wasn’t quite as excited by the Giraffes. But still had a good look at them, especially the mummy giraffe and her baby!
After that we headed to the Congo Gorilla Forest. At the moment the Gorillas are having babies, so it is an exciting time to visit. We didn’t know this before we left, so it was a cute surprise.
After lots of walking and looking at animals it was time to stop for some lunch. After that Tate was very excited to head to the Butterfly Garden. The Butterfly Garden is made up of a conservatory designed just for the butterflies.
Whille Tate had a nap and we waited for the sea lion feeding to begin Knox used the time to have a lot of fun exploring a little grassed area by the sea lions. I’m sure if you asked Knox, he would say that was his favorite part of the day!!!
The sea lion feeding, of course, was extremely popular, so it was a bit difficult to not only get a good viewing spot, but also take photos of the sea lions performing, which was a shame. I think last time we did a better job at taking photos because we were there earlier!
No trip to the Bronx Zoo is complete without a ride on the Bug Carousel. Last time we were at the zoo it was Tate’s first time on a carousel and he was a little unsure at first. This time he was an old hand at the carousel and was excited to get going and kept saying “Let’s go”, while waiting for it to start moving. We were lucky that the carousel wasn’t too busy when we were there, so Tate was able to have 2 turns without waiting too long.
Poor Knox was having a nap while we were at the carousel, so he missed his chance to have his first ever ride nf a carousel. It’ll definitely be a priority next time!!!
The last thing we did before heading home was check out the zebras. Such beautiful, elegant creatures. At least in my opinion………….
That looks like great fun.
