Natural History Museum

A few weeks ago we decided to head to the Natural History Museum for a day out. Our trip there started off with a walk across Central Park, which looked rather pretty due to all the snow and freezing weather.

As soon as we walked in to the Natural History Museum, we knew we’d made an excellent choice for our outing. Both Tate and Knox were in heaven. They loved seeing the two dinosaurs in the entrance and Tate immediately started naming them.

After buying our tickets we headed straight to the rest of the dinosaur exhibits because we knew how much Tate and Knox would enjoy them. And we were not wrong! They had fun running around the area and checking out all the dinosaur skeletons and fossils.

We then headed through to the orientation centre to watch a video. Probably a good place to start if you have older kids because the video is about evolution, thus giving a good introduction to the area.

The next stop was to check out all the solar system areas as Tate loves the planets. First off we looked at the Heilbrunn Cosmic Pathway.

After learning about the solar system it was time for lunch. Knox had so much fun he was too tired to eat his lunch and started falling asleep in the high chair. That is a pretty good review of the museum!

While waiting for our turn to go in the Discovery Centre we wandered around looking at all the animals. Although fun, it wasn’t nearly as fun as checking out the dinosaurs or the solar system.

In the Discovery Centre Tate had fun being a paleontologist – helping to put dinosaur bones back on to a dinosaur. Knox, however, spent his time playing with digging tools and clumps of sand next to the area where lots of kids were digging for fossils.
