The next stop on our road trip in September was Mystic in Connecticut. It is a lovely place that historically was a seaport. Therefore nice views of the water to be had!
We decided to spent the day at Mystic Seaport. It takes a whole day to see and do everything there!
Mystic Seaport is a maritime museum. The 19 acres of the Seaport on the Mystic River include a very cool recreated 19th-century coastal village. Plus formal exhibit halls, ships and a shipyard.
It was really cool looking around the recreated village and seeing all the interesting places. We could see a 19th Century school (very interesting for Tate considering staring school was days away), an old style kitchen and even a horse drawn fire engine.
I think Tate and Richard particularly enjoyed the 1870s Kitchen. They spent ages in there watching the people make a cake.
We even got to board some ships. I think that might have been one of the most exciting parts for Tate and Knox.
There was so much to do at Mystic Seaport that you could really spend a day or two. For very little people of course things can get a bit boring when you don’t understand or have a deep interest in history. That being said there are things there aimed at kids and even the stuff that isn’t Tate and Knox managed to make fun!
So, are the boys asking for bunk beds now after trying them out on the ship?
We visited a submarine recently and the girls desperately wanted to try out the bunks but they were roped off.
Luckily Sally; Tate and Knox have no idea that bunk beds exist. They think it is just a special thing for boats, I guess!
